By authenticating with your NetID to an application or service, you agree to abide by certain terms of use.
Successful authentication also requires a minimum set of data about you being shared with the application or service.
At a minimum, typical applications require:
Many applications also require your UIN be shared, in order to uniquely identify you. This is because your NetID username can be changed.
In order to provide services, applications must be able to uniquely identify users. The default data being shared in an authentication event is considered directory information. Some students elect to “suppress” their directory information, and do not wish to have it disclosed by default (such as being listed in the university’s public online directory).
Disclosure of this suppressed information is explicitly allowed for legitimate university business (see 34 CFR Part §99.31). This may include third parties.
If you use your NetID to authenticate to an application or service for which Texas A&M does not have a contractual relationship (such as using "Sign In With Google" functionality), you are responsible for any action that party may take with your directory information.
